ST. ANNE CATHOLIC GRADE SCHOOL
EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAMS

Our goal at St. Anne is to provide developmentally appropriate experiences in a Catholic environment to encourage each child to develop his/her own capabilities.  Children are encouraged to be independent, make decisions, explore, discover, be creative, and solve problems.  We strive to educate the whole child, and we support the spiritual, cognitive, social, emotional, and physical growth of each child.  Each child is an individual and a gift from God.  Our preschool and pre-kindergarten teachers nurture each child's natural curiosity for learning and encourage self-motivation and independence.  We nurture Catholic faith development in each child.

THREE YEAR OLD PRESCHOOL PROGRAM
We intend to make your child's first school experience a happy one, which will promote positive attitudes toward school and learning.  Our three-year-old program focuses on socialization and learning through play.  We promote and encourage interest in socializing, imaginative play, group activities, and solitary play.  Our preschool program helps each child to become aware of others in relationship to themselves.  Preschoolers will develop independence, social skills, and communication skills.  We nurture a love of learning in our three-year-old preschoolers and prepare them for pre-kindergarten.  The children in this program will not have a specific uniform to wear, since the majority of the time will be spent with social activities.

FOUR YEAR OLD PRE-KINDERGARTEN
Our pre-kindergarten program is designed to prepare your child for kindergarten in a nurturing, Catholic environment.  The St. Anne pre-kindergarten program combines hands-on, whole group, small group, and independent activities to meet each child's needs.  We follow standards set by the Archdiocese of Detroit and the State of Michigan to prepare our children for kindergarten.  Our classroom provides learning experiences in Catholic religion, fine and gross motor skills, creative arts, language, science, social studies, math, reading  readiness, beginning phonics, music, and social and emotional development.  Our students learn daily prayers and also attend Mass once a week with the rest of the school.  Each week, pre-kindergarten learns a letter and a nursery rhyme or fairy tale.  Pre-K also studies a Catholic religion theme and a science or social studies theme each week.  Songs, stories, projects, games, manipulatives, and activities are some of the ways that these concepts are taught to pre-kindergarten children.  We perform assessments with your child throughout the year to measure his/her progress.  Conferences are also held twice a year to discuss your child's progress in our classroom.  You are welcome to request a meeting with your child's teacher at any time the need arises.  The dress code for the 4-year old program will consist of children wearing blue pants and a white shirt (polo shirts without logos are acceptable at this age).  Girls also have the option of wearing a blue or St. Anne jumper with a white shirt.  Tennis shoes are acceptable shoes for this class, as well as brown or black shoes.

Snack
Healthy snacks and milk are provided each morning and afternoon.  If a child has special dietary needs or food allergies, it is important to notify the teacher, and parents may provide the child's snack.

Lunch and Rest Time
Our full day students may order hot lunches or pack lunches.  After lunch, the children go to recess and then take rests and relax on cots.  Each child has his/her own cot and may bring a blanket, a pillow, and a stuffed animal.
